PREVACID is offered as a capsule, orally disintegrating tablet and oral suspension, and is offered in 15 mg and 30 mg strengths. Instructions for use particular to the means and obtainable methods of administration for each of these dosage forms is noted below.

Prevacid should be taken before eating. Prevacid products should not be crushed or chewed.   In clinical trials, antacids were used concurrently with Prevacid. No dosage alteration is essential in individuals with renal insufficiency or the elderly. For individuals with acute liver disease, dosage modification should be considered.

Prevacid Side Effects:

The most ordinary side effects reported with Prevacid were diarrhea, headache, and taste distortion.
Prevacid is not suggested for individuals with creatinine clearance less than 30mL/min. Clarithromycin is contraindicated in individuals taking cisapride, pimozide, astemizole or terfenadine; or in individuals with an identified hypersensitivity to clarithromycin or any macrolide antibiotic. Clarithromycin may promote digoxin serum concentrations. Serum digoxin levels should be cautiously supervised while digoxin and clarithromycin are taken concomitantly. Pregnant women except in situations should not take Clarithromycin where no substitute therapy is appropriate. Amoxicillin is contraindicated in individuals who are allergic to penicillin.

Precautions on taking Prevacid heartburn relief:

Prevacid is not for everyone. Your physician will need to be informed all about your past and present illnesses and the names of any other medications or supplements you take presently and what they are being used for. You should also inform your physician if you have had an allergic response to Prevacid, its elements, or to any medication in the past. Lastly, your physician will also need to know if you are pregnant or nursing.
